Members of Jones County’s Special Olympics Unified Team were recognized for their accomplishments last week at a banquet held in their honor.

The May 12 team banquet was hosted by Bradley Baptist Church and church members provided the venue, food, and servers for the event.

Forty-three team members were honored at the banquet. Family members, supporters, and former team members were also invited.

Student athletes were recognized in seven different categories, including letters for first- through sixth-year participants and masters participation.

Jones County Special Olympics is led by teachers Leah Bodnarchuk and Graham Nash and it is unique in the state. The primary focus of the Jones County program is the unified division of Special Olympics.

Bodnarchuk has been on the Jones County Special Olympics Board since it was re-established in 2006, and Nash joined in 2008. His connection, however, dates back to when he was in high school and a Special Olympics volunteer.
