County Administrator Mike Underwood released a North Gray Bypass update this past Friday. That information stated permits were received by bypass contractor, E.R. Snell Contracting Inc., and work would begin May 30.
Project manager Devin Snell was on site Monday morning and said what he actually received from planning and zoning Friday was the permit to proceed with the project. He said crews would be visible this week clearing trees. The equipment and temporary office buildings would be arriving and the project would be in full swing by June 16.
Snell said workers are needed and he would like to hire locally. The number for E.R. Snell Contractor is 770-985-0600 for anyone interested in employment.
As of Monday morning, all that was visible on Greene Settlement Road was a small metal building, a pile of corrugated pipes, and two pieces of clearing equipment. Snell said work would begin on the Greene and Goolsby properties, and as property is cleared, culvert work would follow. He said part of the project is moving the centerline of Greene Settlement Road toward the Highway 18 side.
