The situation concerning Connie Mize was not mentioned during the June 3 meeting but was one of the topics discussed during their closed session that took place at the conclusion of the meeting.
After approximately an hour in closed session, the commissioners reopened the meeting. County attorney Frank Childs spoke for the board and simply stated that the board is postponing any decision pending the outcome of the case in Putnam County.
Mize was arrested in Eatonton May 30 and charged with shoplifting, which is a misdemeanor.
Last week’s board meeting was brief. Commissioner Jonathan Pitts was in Washington, D.C. representing Jones County at a meeting of the National Association of Counties. The commissioner was one of 25 county leaders selected to participate in the 11th Annual County Leadership Institute.
