Christopher Michael Cornelius was sentenced in the new case and his probation modification in Jones County Superior Court June 26. Upon completion of his 60 days to serve, the defendant shall return to active probation.
He had 12 months probation for the original case and was sentenced to 12 months for the new charges, which included theft by receiving, fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer, obstruction, and DUI. The cases are to run consecutive for a total of 24 months.
The defendant was on probation for a crime he committed Sept. 26, 2013. He pled guilty to that offense in April and received a probated sentence for the crime of theft by taking.
Cornelius was arrested May 15 for the possession of drug-related objects, driving a four-wheeler on the roadway and DUI.
According to a report of the September 2013 theft by taking arrest by Jones County Deputy Carl Wade Jr., he met with a resident of Sand Pit Road in reference to items being stolen from his shed.
