The Jones County Lady Hounds turned up their preparations for the upcoming softball season when they opened preseason batting practice on Monday.

The voluntary sessions are held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9-10 a.m. and 6-7 p.m. at the school softball complex, and are open for those planning to play varsity or junior varsity softball in 2014.

Tryouts for new players joining the teams will be Aug. 1, 6-8 p.m., and Aug. 2, 9-11 a.m. and 6-8 p.m.

The Lady Hounds have a preseason game at Veterans on Aug. 6, then open the regular season with a pair of games against Oconee and West Laurens at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville on Aug. 16. Their home opener is scheduled for Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. against Georgia Military.
