Bond was denied for a defendant in Jones County Superior Court last week who may have broken a county record for having the largest amount of methamphetamine on him at the time of his arrest.

Sheriff’s Department investigator Robert Reece said Marcos David Palacious, 27, of Lilburn, was arrested June 9 and charged with trafficking of meth. The arrest took place around 8 p.m. on the Jones County portion of Shurling Drive. At the time of Palacious’ arrest, the investigator said a kilogram of a type of meth known as ice was in the suspect’s possession and was seized. The estimated street value of the drug is $36,000.

Reece said the arrest was the product of a three-month investigation and Jones County was assisted by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Department, the Department of Corrections, Jones County Probation Office, U.S. Marshal’s Service Southeast Fugitive Task Force and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Palacious has no criminal record but Reece said the drug delivery was not his first. The suspect’s wife and another female were in the car at the time of the arrest, but neither was charged.

Reece said federal officials are interested in the case because of the volume of the drug that was seized.

“This is the largest seizure that I know about in Jones County,” he said.
