GRAY: Dell Cassidy “D.C.” Nelms, 81, went home to his heavenly Father on Friday, July 18, 2014. Memorial services were held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, July 21, at Christ Chapel, Sportstown, in Macon. Pastor John Wood officiated.

Mr. Nelms was born Dec. 29, 1932, in Wheeler County, and had lived in Gray for the past 39 years. He was the son of the late Omar Nelms and Alice Mercer Nelms. Mr. Nelms honorably served his country with the U.S. Army and was a graduate of Florida State University and Baylor University. He was retired as director of physical therapy for the Medical Center of Central Georgia with 33 years of service. Mr. Nelms was a member of Christ Chapel in Macon and was preceded in death by his first wife, Freddie Jean Ganus Nelms.

Mr. Nelms is survived by his wife of 13 years, Charlene Long Nelms; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Renee Nelms of Gray, Brian and Stephanie Nelms of Bonaire, Phillip and Lynn Nelms of Flowery Branch; grandchildren, Casey Nelms of Macon, Devin Norton, Hunter Nelms, both of Bonaire, Christopher Nelms, Gabriel Nelms, Hannah Nelms, all of Flowery Branch.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Macon Rescue Mission, 774 Hazel St., Macon, GA 31201.
