Yard salers are wanted to come and spend money at the Exchange Club of Jones County yard sale Saturday, Oct. 4, held on the grounds in front of the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

The event will begin at 8 a.m., and interested parties may call 986-3929 for more information. The service club is inviting all civic clubs and charitable organizations to join them in the yard sale to raise funds for their chosen cause, and the Jones County Pilot Club was the first to accept that invitation.

The Jones County Sheriff’s Department is located at 123 Holmes Hawkins Dr., which is off Highway 18 East, approximately a mile from downtown Gray.

Exchange Club President Don Graham said he is excited about the yard sale and invites everyone to support the organizations that contribute so much to the community.

The Exchange Club supports Jones County’s Boys and Girls Club, the Department of Family and Children Services, the Adult Learning Center, as well as individuals in need, and at its annual Christmas party, the club honors the service of local law enforcement and fire and rescue volunteers.

The National Exchange Club is committed to making a difference in the lives of children, families and communities through its national project, the prevention of child abuse.

To further that goal, the Jones County club has joined with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department in the creation and support of a safe house to be used for families needing a safe place to spend the night during catastrophic events, such as a domestic violence situation or a house fire.

The club is in its ninth year of existence and meets each Wednesday at the Chamber of Commerce conference room. Exchange is America’s service club, and its history dates back to 1911 when a group of businessmen began meeting in Detroit to exchange business leads and information.
