A chase that resulted from an attempted traffic stop recently led to the arrest of four and the recovery of thousands of dollars worth of items stolen from a neighboring county.
Jones County Investigator Robert Reece was on patrol Oct. 22 at approximately 8 p.m. on Bethlehem Church Road and attempted to stop a 1993 Mazda MX6. Reece said the driver of the vehicle failed to stop, and a chase ensued. The chase ended in the city of Gordon.
Reece said he was assisted in the pursuit by the Gordon Police Department and the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Office. The vehicle was stopped in downtown Gordon, and the driver, 33-year-old James Sinyard, fled the scene.
Reece said Sinyard is from Gordon and has an extensive criminal background. Two passengers in the car were taken into custody, Brittney Renee Loyd, 27, of Gordon, and John David Rozier, 26, of Jones County.
Loyd was charged with penalty for abandonment of controlled drugs, VGCSA possession of marijuana less than an ounce, VGCSA possession of methamphetamine, and Rozier with theft by receiving stolen property, VGCSA possession of schedule IV drug possession of diazepam, VGCSA possession of marijuana less than ounce, possession of arms by convicted felons and first offender probationer, and VGCSA possession methamphetamine.
Reece said items including methamphetamine were found in the vehicle, and additional items, including a shotgun and marijuana, were picked up along the route of the pursuit. The investigator said he observed items being thrown from the vehicle during the chase.
During the investigation, the shotgun was connected to Joseph Lamar Myrick, 52, of Jones County. The investigator said Sinyard reportedly provided Myrick with meth and later wanted payment for the drugs. The shotgun was given in payment of the drug debt.
“Sinyard, Rozier, and Loyd were all known to be at Myrick’s residence, and all three of the men are convicted felons,” Reece said.
Myrick was arrested at his home Oct. 23 and charged with possession of arms by a convicted felon. Sinyard was arrested the same day by the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force, according to the investigator, and charged with VGCSA possession of marijuana less than one ounce, possession of arms by convicted felons and first offender probationer, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, possession of firearm or knife while trying to commit crimes, driving while license suspended or revoked, and penalty for abandonment of controlled drugs.
Investigator Lt. Jimmy Black said a warrant was executed at Rozier’s residence on Elam Church Road Oct. 9 and schedule four drugs were recovered in addition to two four-wheelers. The next day, the ATVs were reported stolen.
The four-wheelers were subsequently discovered to be included in a number of items stolen Oct. 8 from a hunting camp on the Wilkinson-Baldwin county line. After officers were made aware of the burglary, they returned to the residence and recovered tools and compressors, and Black said following last week’s investigation, multiple guns were recovered from a wooded area off of County Line Road.
“After talking to the Wilkinson County Sheriff’s Department, our focus was finding those guns,” Black stated. He also said that the investigation is ongoing and more charges may or may not be added.
