A Macon man is under arrest at the Jones County Law Enforcement Center after leading officers on a cross-country chase this afternoon.
Jones County Deputy Sam Beard said he expects there will be an array of charges against Mark Ashley Crownover, 39, following the chase that damaged two patrol cars and a civilian's SUV. The officer said, to his knowledge, no one was injured.
Beard said he estimates the chase went on for 20 minutes and began when he responded to a call about a suspicious person knocking on doors on Greene Settlement Road at approximately 1:30 p.m.
The deputy saw Crownover get into a Black Geo Tracker, which he then followed. When he attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, the chase began. Beard said officers will be investigating the area where he first encountered the suspect to try to find out why he ran.
I heard the manufacturers of the Tracker model were planning to put more horsepower under the hood, but I had no idea it would be this powerful. Congrats Geo...and to Ford, who manufactures the police cars that caught up to Crownover.
