Two girls’ all-star softball teams from Jones County’s National League program at the Central Recreation Complex on Ga. 18 won state titles last weekend in Butler to advance to the Dixie League Softball World Series for their age divisions.
The 8-and-under Extreme team will play in the Darlings Division in Denison, Texas, July 30-Aug. 5.
And the 10-and-under Explosion team will play the same dates in the Angels Division in Vancleave, Miss.
“I am so very proud of all of these girls, in both divisions,” said Guy Mosteller, manager of the 10-and-under team and a captain with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department. “They have worked hard for the last several weeks with the Dixie Softball World Series being their goal. They have reached their goal; now it is time to reach their dreams of winning the World Series.”
The 8-and-under team, managed by Heather McCullough, went 4-1 in the state tournament.
“We won our first game on Thursday, then had a rain delay in our second game on Friday night and had to go back early Saturday morning to finish, and won that,” McCullough said.
