The Jones County girls’ and boys’ soccer teams both had four players selected to the Region 4-5A first or second team all-region squads that were announced last week.

The Lady Hounds were 7-3-1 when the season shut down in the middle of March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Greyhounds were 3-6-1.

Selected for the first team girls were Madisen Mitchum and Mackenzie Kilpatrick, and for the second team were Emily Brennaman and Madison Bennett.

Selected for the first team boys were Jonathan Sorrell and Cade Jenkins, and for the second team were Blake Arnold and Dylan Phillips.

Mitchum, who passed 100 goals for her high school career early in the season, has signed to play soccer in college at Charleston Southern University.

Both Jones County teams had long lists of players who were named honorable mention.

For the Lady Hounds, Maddie Beck, Macy Norman, Courtney Bivins, Natalie Pounds and Mackenzie Churchwell were all honorable mention.

And for the Jones County boys, Kyle Taylor, Trevor Batchelor, Trevor Harry, Nick Rouse, Ethan Ali, Matt Mullis, Holt Phillips, Daniel Hicks, Ethan West, Landon Johnson and Jay Patel were named honorable mention.

The Jones County girls were coached by Mikayla Greene and Will Cowart, and the Greyhounds were coached by Will Gallamore and Clark Sweat.
