The Milledeville Fire Department continues to work a weekend blaze at the Relax Inn on North Columbia Street as an arson investigation.
The fire lit up the sky and took roughly three hours to extinguish, although only four rooms were directly impacted by fire, according to Chief William Collier. However, water and smoke damage was more extensive to other parts of the motel, the chief added.
The Relax Inn, located across from Walmart, is flanked by the A.J.’s Wings strip mall on one side and Heritage Road on the other. Previously known at the Econo Lodge, the motel was build in 1974, and the building is more than 90,000 square feet, split between three floors.
The Milledgeville Police Department has filed at least 19 reports from incidents that involved the Relax Inn since the beginning of 2018, according to The Baldwin Bulletin’s records.
Rooms at the Relax Inn begin at $45 per night, according to an online search.
