JONES COUNTY: Charles Eugene “Gene” Rowland, Sr., 81, of Willow Oak Drive, East, died Sunday, July 18, at a local hospital. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., Thursday, July 22, at Gray Memorial Chapel in Gray. Memorial services will follow at 6:00 p.m., with Rev. John Livingston officiating.
Mr. Rowland was born March 22, 1940, in Eastman and had lived in Jones County for most of his life. He was the son of the late Charles Herman Rowland and Mildred Jimmie Bush Rowland. Mr. Rowland was a retired automotive mechanic, with the ability to many times diagnose an automotive issue over the phone. He was a simple man with a sense of humor. He was a Chevrolet man and enjoyed Dr. Pepper. He was preceded in death by his sister, June Wynn.
Mr. Rowland is survived by his children, Charles E. “Chuck” Rowland Jr., Amy Godwin, and Michelle (Nathan) Livingston; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; lifelong friend, Jo Ann Smith; sisters, Sue (Grady) Walsh, Judy B (David) Bennett, Joyce Cochran, Faye Mahone, Linda (Scott) Combs, Evelyn (Sam) Armstrong, and Ann Garland; 13 nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
