Fans will be limited for JCHS football, asked to wear masks

Posted in:

Although it looked like it might not happen many times, high school football in Georgia is about to take place. The Greyhounds have been working since June, and the coaches and players have done everything possible to stay safe so this day may occur. As I am sure you are aware, Northeast had to cancel the first game of the season. Therefore, we have added a home game with Grayson High School on Sept. 4. This means the best two teams to ever visit Greyhound Field will come the first two weeks of the season. Grayson is the Pre Season No. 1 ranked team in Georgia and the No. 5 ranked team in the United States. North Gwinnett will visit on Sept. 11, and are ranked No. 5 in 7-A in Georgia and No. 50 nationally. We also have five region home games this year. As we prepare for this year, you need to be made aware of some changes that will take place on Friday Nights because of COVID-19.

With the addition of new bleachers on the visitors’ side, we now seat just over 5100 people. We will sell 2500 tickets for the first FB game. After approximately 1350 fans enter on the home side, we will start asking everyone else with a ticket to go to the visitors’ bleachers. If you feel like you can more easily social distance on the visitors’ side, please feel free to go there at any time.

We are going to sell 2500 tickets (50 percent occupancy) for the Grayson game on Sept. 4. Those tickets will be sold online at for $9. If there are any tickets left after 3 p.m. on Friday, they will go on sale at the home gate for $10 at 6 p.m. If all the tickets are sold out on, we will not sell any tickets at the stadium. Please follow us on Twitter at @jcgreyhounds and on Facebook on the Jones County Football page. We will give you the link for tickets and let you know when they are available on those two sites. I will update Twitter frequently to let you know how many tickets are left. We have 2100 tickets to sell, and Grayson has 400. Fans that have reserved seats will get into the game with their season tickets.

Entrance into the stadium will be in three areas: the front home gate, the front visitors’ gate, and the ticket gate behind the home stands. All other gates will be locked. Hand sanitizer and masks for those who forget to bring them will be available at all entry gates.

Fans, please remember to social distance as much as possible at the game. We highly recommend and urge all fans to wear masks, but especially when you are not able to stay six feet apart from others. Any JC fans are welcome to go to the visitors’ side where it may be easier for you to social distance. The use of masks and social distancing are the keys as to whether this season will get completed. Remember to stay seated unless you are purchasing concessions or using the restrooms, as gathering in groups will not be permitted.

Concession stands will be open and all concession workers will be wearing masks and gloves.

No one will be allowed on the field after the game per GHSA.

Because of you, Jones County has an atmosphere and a home field advantage that is unmatched in middle Georgia. Hopefully everything goes well early in the season so that eventually we will be able to admit more and more fans. Right now, however, we are thrilled just to be able to play and to have a 50 percent occupancy. We need your help to make Friday nights successful. Please call me if you have any questions or concerns at 972-1685.

Thank you for your cooperation and GO HOUNDS!
