Get Up and Go Easter Egg Hunt planned

Posted in:

In keeping with social distancing and Centers for Disease Control guidelines, the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce has been in contact with the Easter bunny and has a unique plan for a community egg hunt.

Chamber Executive Director Haley Watson said beginning April 5 th and continuing through April 18 th the Chamber and Main Street Gray are hosting a countywide “Get Up and Go Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt.”

She said with the help of local individuals and businesses there would be 60 painted wooden eggs, approximately two feet tall, hidden throughout Jones County for kids of all ages to help find.

“This Get Up and Go Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt is unlike most Easter egg hunts that many of us are used to. For this Easter Egg Hunt, you only need your cell phone, your car, and your family members,” Watson said. “The fun of this Easter Egg Hunt isn’t finding an egg full of candy, it is exploring your community and having fun with your family while searching for these brightly colored eggs.”

The director explained the rules for the Easter egg scavenger hunt are simple:

• Keep a safe distance from the Easter Bunny’s eggs by ensuring that everyone stays inside their vehicle at ALL times and be respectful of the Easter Bunny’s hiding grounds.

• Take photos and share the adventure by using the hashtags #JonesEasterEggHunt and #GetUpAndGoEggHunt. For more fun, each family could create their own team hashtag to go with the photos as well, for example #TeamPeterRabbit #TeamHop #TeamWatsons.

• TAG a neighbor or friend to encourage them to help the Easter Bunny find his eggs, too.

Watson said participating homes and businesses would be updated daily and listed on the interactive Jones Easter Egg Hunt Map,

“We know that this Easter Egg Hunt may take a little while and get your appetites going, so we encourage you to support our local restaurants by picking up a meal to-go during your travels to fuel your hungry explorers,” she said.

She added that the first family to find all 60 eggs is guaranteed a $25 gift card from one of Jones County’s local eateries and three other gift cards will be randomly drawn from among the participants.

“Happy hunting,” Watson said. For more information visit find the Jones County/Gray Chamber of Commerce on Facebook.
