Gray Stables, a local home decor shop, has moved locations and is open to meet the needs of decorating for the Jones County community.
Gray Stable’s new address is 118 West Clinton St. in Gray, directly across the highway from its former location. Hours of operation are Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Due to COVID-19, the shop is open by appointment only.
Shelly Marshall, the owner, said she has lived in Jones County about seven years now, learning what people like in their home decor. She said she likes almost everything about living in Jones County.
“I like the small town kind of feel,” she said. “What’s not to like about Jones County? It’s so much different from Bibb County.”
Marshall said moving locations was more ideal for her business needs. She said the parking area is more convenient for customers, and they have more room to look around the shop. She said she can also focus on more staging in the new location, so she’s happy with the move.
“I’ve owned Gray Stables for over a year. There’s a lot more room for the furniture and other home decor items in this new place. I can have more inventory and pieces for customers now,” Marshall said.
The shop owner said she still offers mainly home decor items for purchase, but she also has soaps, candles, furniture, pillows, lamps, and much more.
“I’ve put a lot of work into the new building,” Marshall said. “It’s just way bigger and brighter. I feel like my new location just has more to offer my customers.”
She said Gray Stables offers one-on-one interaction unlike chain stores, plus Gray doesn’t have as much traffic as bigger cities. She said she feels people appreciate that they get to deal with the actual owner of a shop.
“I think Gray Stables is pretty important to Jones County. People love to come in and see the unique items available right in their town. It’s a quick place to go,” she said.
Marshall said she feels Gray Stables will be around a long time since she’s survived through the past few months with the economy being in such a tough situation. She said running Gray Stables has been her dream, and will continue to thrive despite the situation.
“I think if people want a good hometown, local experience, it’s a good place to shop,” the shop owner said. “Everyone gets treated the same when they walk through my door. It’s a welcoming and warming place to be.”
