High school band director resigns after arrest

Posted in:

The Jones County High School’s band director resigned from his position following the disclosure of a misdemeanor arrest in a nearby county.

Robert Wayne Groves has served as the band director since the beginning of the 2016-17 school year.

He resigned from the position Dec. 1.

A report of his arrest appeared on the Warner Robins Police Department Daily Bulletin Nov. 14.

The report states that Groves was arrested on the charge of simple battery family violence (misdemeanor) at a Karl Drive address in Warner Robins.

JCHS Principal Lance Rackley communicated with band families to let them know he met with all band students after Groves’ resignation, which was effective immediately.

The principal said he wanted the band members to know how much he cares about them and the band program.

He said the high school would continue to support the band and all band activities throughout the remainder of the school year.

“Plans have already been made to continue all activities, such as the Christmas concert, Christmas parade, etc., and we will continue to support the JCHS Band throughout this time,” the post stated.
