Gray Station got off to a quick start, then held off Clifton Ridge for an 8-6 victory Saturday morning at the high school field in the first meeting this season between Jones County’s two middle school baseball teams.
The game had been scheduled for last Tuesday but was postponed due to all the rain last week
Noah Robinson pitched well in relief for Griffin Maki for the Hounds in the victors and shortstop Devin Edmonds made some good plays on defense. Cohen Barfield, Blane Lott and Evan Cribbled the offense.
Trae Pelt and Chris Garey pitched for the Cougars. Pelt had a double and two RBIs for Clifton Ridge, Garey had two hits and Colin Evans had one.
Gray Station jumped ahead with three runs in the first and two in the second. Clifton Ridge answered with two in the bottom of the second.
Both teams scored three runs in the fourth, and the Cougars added a run in the bottom of the sixth but could not quite catch the Hounds.
The two schools are scheduled to play each other again on March 26.
