Today's noon update from the Georgia Department of Public Health with the number of positive tests for COVID-19 included Jones County for the first time.
Due to HIPAA regulations, the name of the individual will not be released; however, it is important to know that a positive test triggers a thorough investigation by the DPH into the contacts of the individual over the past two weeks. Those who have been in contact with the individual will be notified.
The report of a positive test for a person living in Jones County was no surprise with five of the seven counties that touch Jones County already reporting positive tests. So far only Wilkinson and Putnam counties have not reported positive cases.
The best defense against contracting or spreading COVID-19 continues to be hand washing and practicing social distancing. More information about COVID-19 can be found at dph.ga.gov. A status report of the number of cases in Georgia is updated daily at noon and 7 p.m.
