JCHS girls fall in region final
Host Eagle's Landing broke open a close game in the third quarter Friday night and held on with free throws at the end to down the Lady Hounds 56-46 in the Region 4-5A championship game in McDonough.
Jones County will still host a first round game in the state playoffs next Friday as the No. 2 seed from Region 4. The Lady Hounds will play the No. 3 seed from Region 1, likely either Warner Robins or Bainbridge. The Region 1 tournament runs through Saturday.
Jones County stayed close throughout the first half, taking small leads several times. But the taller Golden Eagles, taking advantage of some turnovers and Jones County misses, was able to widen its lead to 10 in the third quarter and the Lady Hounds could not catch up.
Eagle's Landing improved to 21-5 with the win. Jones County is now 22-6.
