JCHS teams split with Locust Grove

The Jones County boys downed Locust Grove 5-0 in a tennis match at home last Thursday, improving to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in region play.

The Lady Hounds lost 3-2 to Locust Grove, making them 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the region.

In singles for the Greyhounds, Sam Caldwell downed Zack Ivey 8-5, Michael Harris downed Jeremy Suber 8-4 and Ethan Knight downed Blake Andrews 8-0. In doubles, Jackson Taylor and A.J. Pounds won 8-2 over Josh Rays and Nathan Griffin, and Daniel Hursey and Drake Daughtrey won 8-2 over Matthew McCarley and Chris Hiett.

In the girls’ singles, Jones County’s Haley Favors lost 8-1 to Kelly Keener, Rylee Veal lost 8-7 (tiebreaker 7-4) to Courtney White, and Jalisa Williams beat Caylie Breeze 9-7.

In doubles, Siera Hursey and Natalie Wommack won 8-2 over Maggi Shearouse and Zada C, and Emma Randall and Sydney Bowman lost 8-5 to Ally Powell and Loren Upchurch.

A match at Eagle’s Landing last Tuesday was postponed.
