From the mind of Dr. Seuss, comes a musical that brings to life several iconic characters right here in Gray. Jones County Arts is a non-profit organization that supports the arts in the community, which many local students, like myself, are involved. Our upcoming production is Seussical, Jr.; a fantastical musical that brings various Dr. Seuss characters to life.
The Cat in the Hat, played by Gavin Ward narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, played by Jared McAfee who discovers a person’s a person no matter how small. Horton the Elephant finds a clover that contains a small speck of dust. On that dust speck, are tiny people known as the Whos. Horton befriends the smallest Who of all, Jojo, played by Abbie Seney, and vows that he will protect the Whos world from harm. Horton’s journey takes many twists and turns as he bumps into animals from the Jungle of Nool and the Circus McGurkus.
The show dates and times are Saturday April 24 at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday April 25 at 3:30 p.m. To accommodate for COVID-19, the performances will take place outside at Gray United Methodist Church, lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged. Tickets for adults are $10 and tickets for students are $5. Tickets are available at the Jones County Chamber of Commerce during business hours or at the ticket table prior to the performance. Seussical is comical, light-hearted, and perfect for all ages. I am so thankful to be part of such a wonderful cast led by director, Mrs. Lisa Mullis, and music director, Mrs. Mystee Wilcox. Be sure to grab your tickets, because you will not want to miss the laughs this cast has in store for you and your family.
