The Jones County Board of Commissioners completed their budget process last week with the adoption of their 2019 budget.
Commissioner Chairman Chris Weidner brought the Sept. 6 called meeting to order with Commissioners Sam Kitchens and Tommy Robinson attending. The three commissioners were the minimum required to constitute a quorum in order to conduct county business.
The board set the county’s millage rate at 16.197 for the incorporated area and 17.649 incorporated area, Aug. 30. The budget process requires seven days to pass before the budget is adopted, which was the reason for last week’s meeting.
The resolution to set the budget was read by CFO Lavita Crutchfield. She said the county’s total budget was $28,531,220.68, which includes the budget for all county departments.
The resolution stated that the budget had a contingency line item in the General Fund of $981,002. Of that amount, $647,555 has been approved for department head requests and a 4 percent raise for county employees.
The remaining amount will remain in the contingency fund for special requests and unforeseen expenses.
The vote to approve the budget was unanimous.
