Several of Jones County’s distance runners competed in Atlanta last weekend.
Hayden Durrett, Logan Ward, Kyle Whipple and Austin Sullivan placed 26th in the 4-by-800 boys’ relay in the Atlanta Relays last Friday at Lakewood Stadium.
They had a time of 9:28.42. Alexander’s team won with a time of 8:07.35.
Four Jones County girls, Halley Smith, Sydney Grant, Mariah Hunter and Laney Doster, competed in a special 4-by-1 mile relay Saturday at Atlanta’s Olympic park as part of the America’s Marathon Weekend activities hosted by the Atlanta Track Club to coincide with the U.S. Olympic marathon trials held there. Their time was not reported.
Jones County’s track teams are scheduled to begin their regular season this Friday in the Baldwin High Friday Night Lights meet in Milledgeville.
The Jones County junior varsity girls scored 38.9 points and the middle school girls scored 86.6 points last Saturday in a gymnastics meet at Colquitt High School.
The high school team is scheduled to compete Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Ola High School. Jones County’s next home meet is March 21 at Lake Country gym in Milledgeville.
Jones County’s season-opening match against Strong Rock last Thursday at Georgia National was rained out.
The Greyhounds are scheduled to host Washington County and Northeast-Macon at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Lake Jonesco. They are to play FPD at Healy Point next Monday.
