On June 22, the Jones County Kiwanis Club honored Jones County High School STAR student, Daniel Hicks, and his selection of his STAR teacher, Mrs. Carol Cazort, who was his first grade teacher. Daniel, who is the son of Finley Hicks and Melissa Hicks, has excelled at Jones County, and says his favorite course in high school was advanced placement biology. He has been an active member of the student body, lettering in soccer for four years, wrestling for three years, and cross country for two years. He is also an Eagle Scout. Daniel will attend Georgia Tech in the fall where he will study biochemistry with plans of achieving a postgraduate degree and working in the field of genetics. A student achieves the STAR student honor by scoring the highest grade on the Scholastic Aptitude Test at his school while maintaining a grade point average in the top ten percent of his class. The STAR student selects his STAR teacher on the basis of the teacher making the most significant contribution to the student’s education. The Kiwanis Club, which has been sponsoring the STAR program for well over 50 years, is extremely proud of Daniel Hicks and Carol Cazort. Shown in the photo is Kiwanis President, John Martin with Daniel and Mrs. Cazort. The club presented a check for $1,000.00 to Daniel.
