Jones County's softball season came to a disappointing and soggy end Tuesday
Jones County's softball season came to a disappointing and soggy end Tuesday when Harris County rallied in the rain to win 3-2 to complete a two-game sweep of the Lady Hounds in the opening round of the Class 5A state playoffs in Hamilton.
Harris County also won the first game 7-1 Tuesday afternoon.
The best of three series was moved up to Tuesday to try to beat the bad weather coming with the hurricane. But wind and rain arrived late in the second game, wrecking Jones County's effort to even the series.
Jones County led the second game 1-0 until the seventh inning. That's when the rain came, but play continued even though the pitchers could not grip the ball and kept walking and hitting batters.
The Lady Tigers managed to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh. Jones County fought back to tie it in the bottom of the inning.
The rain slacked off and the teams played two extra innings before Harris County eventually won, ending Jones County's season.
