The Jones County girls defeated Dutchtown 77-46 Tuesday evening in the first round of the Region 4-5A basketball tournament to qualify for the state playoffs for the first time since 2009.
The Lady Hounds, now 21-5, play Woodland-Stockbridge, 20-6, at 4 p.m. Thursday in the region semifinals. The championship and consolation games will be Friday to determine the seeding for the region’s four representatives in the state playoffs.
Eagle’s Landing High School in McDonough is hosting the tournament.
The Jones County boys did not fare as well. They lost 61-55 to Dutchtown in the first round of region on Monday, ending their season with a 16-10 record. It is the second year in the row the Greyhounds have failed to advance out of the region after making the state playoffs three consecutive seasons.
