Lady Hounds to play for region title

Posted in:

The Jones County girls outscored Woodland-Stockbridge 14-8 in overtime Thursday afternoon to take a 50-44 victory in their region semifinal game at Eagle's Landing High School in McDonough.

The Lady Hounds, who improved to 22-5, will play in the Region 4-5A championship game at 7 p.m. Friday, also at Eagle's Landing.

Jones County had already clinched a spot in the state playoffs for the first time since 2009 with a win over Dutchtown on Tuesday. Thursday's victory guarantees the Lady Hounds will be home for the first round of the state playoffs next weekend.

Jones County fell behind 15-5 in the first quarter Thursday but outscored Woodland 14-4 in the second quarter to tie the game. It remained close throughout the second half.
