Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, playing against outside competition has come to a halt. Last Thursday for Jones County High School, that hiatus ended with the Lady Greyhounds scrimmaging against Veterans on the softball diamond, falling 11-8 in a back-and-forth bout.

JCHS got a good look at its roster as a whole, using multiple pitchers as well as receiving strong contributions up and down the lineup.

“In a scrimmage you want to see people in different places, see what they do in places they might not normally play,” Lady Hounds head coach Tripp Burt said. “We had a few mistakes that got us in the end, and missed opportunities, but in the end, we had some runners on base and had a chance; that’s all you can ask.”

The Greyhounds hosts Woodland Thursday with the JV game at 4 p.m. with the varsity game following.
