BASKETBALL

The Jones County girls won all three games last week and the boys won two of three as both improved to 4-1 on the season.

Both also won their first two region games over Union Grove and Ola.

Jones County hosts Eagle’s Landing in more region action on Friday, with the girls to play at 7 p.m. and the boys to follow at 8:30. The Greyhounds and Lady Hounds play at Mary Persons on Saturday, then return home next Tuesday to host Stockbridge at 6 p.m. and 7:30.

The Lady Hounds downed Union Grove 41-38 on the road last Tuesday and followed that with a 78-36 win over Ola at home on Friday and a 67-52 non-region win at Warner Robins on Saturday.

The Greyhounds whipped Union Grove 58-44 and downed Ola 61-52 before losing for the first time this season, falling 55-38 at Warner Robins.

Senior Ty Richardson led the Lady Hounds with 19 points in the win at Union Grove. Madison Bennett added nine.

Another senior, Jasmine Greene, took over for the weekend, getting hot with her outside shot. She sank five 3-pointers in each of the wins against Ola and Warner Robins, leading Jones County with 20 against the Lady Mustangs and 18 against the Lady Demons. Richardson added 12 points and Lu Woolfolk 11 against Ola. Woolfolk scored 15 and Richards 13 at Warner Robins. “We’re getting some good shooting outside, and we’re playing hard and getting better on defense. But we still need to play a lot better,” coach ChoRhonda Gwaltney-Harris said. “If we start to make our layups, we’ll be a good team. We’re still missing too many easy ones for me to be satisfied.” Richardson had seven assists and three steals in the game at Warner Robins, and Woolfolk added five steals. Bryson Wooten scored 12 points and Tre Dean added 11 to lead the Greyhounds over Union Grove. Chavis Mathis had six rebounds, five steals, two assists and a block to go with his eight points, and Marquis Jackson scored eight and had five rebounds and two steals. Dean led the Greyhounds with 16 points and Marquis Jackson added 14 in the win over Ola, but coach Dennis Woolfolk was far from pleased with his team’s play against the Mustangs. “It wasn’t pretty at all. We opened a lead but could never put them away due to a poor level of focus by some of our players,” he said. “There at the end when they were trying to come back on us, we called time and set up some plays. We executed the plays OK,
