Cross country runners from the middle school ranks of Jones County shined brightly over the weekend at the Clash of the Classes meet at Bleckley County.
From a team standpoint, Jones County’s contingent placed first in the sixth-grade girls and eighth-grade boys events.
Tyler Marshall not only won the eighth-grade boys event but was also the event’s top overall boys runner with a time of 12:47.88. Marshall was one of four Jones County runners placing in the top six as the fourth through sixth positions were filled by Gavin Robinson, Luke Thornton and Grady Newby with times of 13:07.18, 13:20.41 and 13:21.44.
Other top finishes from Jones County came from Dawson Walker in 11 th (14:21.28), Shaun Williams in 13 th (14:25.75), Clayton Lacy in 15 th (14:43.91) and Connor Peterson in 30 th (15:53.59).
In the seventh-grade boys race, John Rackley was 15 th (16:04.41) and Chase Ham was 17 th (16:55.00), in front of Rylan Fuller in 21 st (17:28.56). Emmit Mitchum was 21 st in the sixth-grade boys race (21:24.53).
In the sixth-grade girls race, Jones County runners took up four of the top ten finishing positions. Becca Durrett was third (18:17.62) in front of Audree Brown (18:19.94) in fourth. Banks Dyer was seventh (19:23.03) and Catelyn Myers was tenth (20:58.72). Brooklyn Rogers came in 19 th (22:21.62) and Cadey Snow was 28 th (25:20.15).
In the eighth-grade girls race, Addison Robinson was 19 th (18:37.22) and Sarah Zellner was 25 th (20:27.25) while in the seventh-grade girls race, Sydney Smith timed in at 28 th (22:38.62).
