Randy Pope

GRAY: Randall Cleveland Pope was born April 30, 1954. He went to Glory with his mom and dad September 9, at the age of 64.

He was born in Moultre, and later moved to Fort Valley, and on to Gray. He worked with his father at the Handy Andy gas station, until he finished school at Jones County High in Gray.

Pope then went to work for River North Golf and Country Club as a groundskeeper. At the age of 19, he was offered a position at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio as a facilities manager, where he worked for 37 years and made his home.

He was known to many as Bruh, Randy, Buddy, Randall, and Bubba. He was an avid NASCAR fan and attended every race he could. He had a great love for his country, family, and friends. Randy loved telling jokes, riding his motorcycle, playing, and loving his beloved pet, “Sandy.” He also did many logos for Firestone.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rubye Jewell Mock and Grover C “Buck” (Martha Sue) Pope; a step-sister, Stacy Floyd; and his “Lil Pup”, Sandy.

He is survived by his sister, Wanda Pope (Bondsey) Sweatt; nieces, Nicki Lassiter and Krystal Sweatt; a great-niece; a nephew; and cousins.

A celebration of Randy’s life will be held November 3, from 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., in the sunroom at Chevy’s, located at 300 West Clinton Street, Gray, GA 31032. Please bring pictures and memories if you have them.
