“In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” (John 1:4)
Jesus is life.
This world wallows in death. Our start is the womb, but our end is the grave. No one receives a “get out of death” card. Rather we get an invitation to death that we can’t refuse. The music, the movies, our present culture seems so death oriented all because this world is shadowed by death.
But Jesus came to give life, an abundant life, a full life, an eternal life. Throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus declares He is Life! (Jn 3:16; Jn 10:10; Jn 11:25; Jn 14:6). And not just any life but THE Life. What peace to know that death doesn’t end it all; that the grave is not the final stop. Jesus opened the door to life when He stepped out of that tomb. He has forever removed death’s shadow over us.
Your body, your earth suit as some call it, will die and repose in the grave for a while. But you, your spirit, will soar into Glory to be with Christ. Then one day our bodies, reunited with our spirits, will be resurrected to new and glorified bodies, not subject to corruption or any other issues. The arthritis will be gone, the missing limbs restored, the cancer purged. (1 Cor 15:42). We will be like Jesus’ glorified body (I Jn 3:2).
But Jesus offers us life here and now, not just later when we die. He gives purpose, hope, joy, peace, a fullness for living as we walk daily with Him under blue skies or through stormy nights. However, this life He provides is only for His believers. You must be saved to have His life. Until you come to Jesus, the shadow of death still hangs over you.
