JONES COUNTY: Sonya M. Simpson, 73, of Wimbledon Lane, passed away Saturday, May 9, at a local hospital. Private services were held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 14. Rev. Gary Thomas officiated. A live feed was available on the Gray Memorial Chapel Facebook page.

Mrs. Simpson was born Feb. 18, 1947, in Macon to the late Merrill Leslie Lockard and Clara Frances Wimberly Lockard. She was devoted to Jesus and was a member of Elam Baptist Church. Mrs. Simpson was a 1965 graduate of Miller High School and was an accomplished writer and painter. She was a retired court reporter and enjoyed spending her time with her dog “Sammy” and her family. Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Paul C. Simpson III and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Paul C. Simpson Jr.

Mrs. Simpson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Jeff Jernigan and her grandchildren, Kaleb, Keaton and Ansley.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 804 Cherry Street, Macon, Georgia 31201.
