For Jacob Thompson, baseball has been a significant part of his life since a young age.
Now, he’ll take the next step in carving out his own legacy. Thompson signed a National Letter of Intent last week to continue his baseball career at Brevard College, a Division III school located in the western part of North Carolina.
“It’s awesome. I have always wanted to play college ball,” Thompson said. “I always knew the opportunity would be there if I kept my head down and kept grinding."
For Jones County head baseball coach Jason Page, Thompson’s signing adds to the well-rounded meaning of the standout to the Greyhounds program, on and off the field.
“For him to do this, this is something he has always wanted to do as a small child,” Jones County head baseball coach Jason Page said. “You are thrilled when a guy like Jacob gets an opportunity like his since he has such a strong character, has put the work in and continues to grow as a player.”
Thompson and his teammates are eager for the 2021 season as last year’s was cut short by COVID-19.
“We’ve got a good senior group. We’re hoping to make a good run at the playoffs,” Thompson said.
