BREAKING: Former JCHS band director arrested for sexual assault

The resignation of Jones County High School’s band director was accepted by the Board of Education Tuesday, and Thursday he was arrested by the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

Robert Corey Tanner, 32, was arrested Sept. 10 and charged with three counts of sexual assault.  A press release from Sheriff Butch Reece states that school authorities notified his office Sept. 3, when they discovered evidence of an inappropriate relationship involving a student.

Reece said all three charges stem from incidents that happened at off-campus locations. He said the investigation is ongoing and investigators are still preparing and executing search warrants, as well as collecting evidence from many locations in Middle Georgia and in and around the City of Atlanta.

Tanner is being held without bond at the Jones County jail.
