City council approves contract to rehabilitate wells

Gray City Council approved spending $38,000 a year for five years to have a company rehab three city wells and maintain them at a called meeting on Jan. 17.

The called meeting was held after the council’s regular all committees meeting at 6 p.m.

The contract with Utility Service Company calls for the company to refurbish wells No. 2, No. 15 and No. 16 and provide maintenance for them for the next 10 years.

The fee is $38,000 a year for the first five years, then is cut in half for the next five, with the provision for  up to a 5 percent annual increase to offset added costs if needed.

The move is aimed at increasing water production of the wells, which has dropped off in recent years.
