Former assistant coach pleads guilty

A former Jones County High School assistant football coach received six months in a state probation detention center and seven years on probation after entering a guilty plea to having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

A jury was selected Nov. 13, and the trial of Thomas Jacob Norman was ready to begin in Jones County Superior Court Nov. 15 when defense attorney Dwayne Singleton announced that his client had decided to enter a guilty plea.

Norman was sentenced to 12 months each for two charges of electronically furnishing obscene material to minors and five years on the charge of criminal attempt to commit a felony. The counts are to run consecutively for a total of seven years.
