GDOT looks at options for bypass intersection

Multiple accidents at a second intersection on the Veterans Memorial Parkway, also known as the North Gray Bypass, have gotten the attention of the Georgia Department of Transportation.

A proposed meeting about the intersection at Greene Settlement Road and the bypass with GDOT officials, Board of Commissioners Chairman Chris Weidner, Jones County Sheriff Butch Reece, County Administrator Jason Rizner, and State Rep. Susan Holmes is scheduled for next week. The chairman said he would be sharing the citizens’ concerns he has received at the meeting and all input was welcomed.

Weidner said GDOT officials are considering options, and he was told they plan to do whatever it will take to make the intersection safe. Currently traffic from Greene Settlement Road goes straight across the intersection. Each side of Greene Settlement Road has a stop sign, which is the same situation previously at the intersection of the bypass and Eatonton Highway, which was the site of three fatalities.
