Greyhounds sending three to state meet
The Greyhounds will have three wrestlers competing in the state traditional individual meet this weekend at the Macon Coliseum.
Junior Colton Blount placed third in the 132-pound division at the A sectional at Veterans High School last Friday and Saturday.
Sophomore Trey Bonner was fifth in the 285-pound division, and senior Nick Nelson was eighth in the 138-pound division to also qualify for state.
Jones County competes in Class 5A. Former Greyhound Torrez Finney won state in the 195-pound division in 2015 and 2016.
Freshman Daniel Hicks also wrestled in the sectional for Jones County, placing 10th in the 120-pound division to just miss advancing to state.
Blount, Nelson and Bonner each won their opening matches on Friday but then lost in the second round. They were able to come back through the consolation bracket on Saturday to earn berths in the state meet.
