GUILTY = 35.5 YEARS: Judge issues sentence for crimes committed in 2015 wreck

Seven days after being convicted on all nine charges for which he was charged, a Jones County man was sentenced to a total of 35-1/2 years with 10 years to serve in prison.

Roderick Charette was back in Jones County Superior Court Feb. 7 for a sentencing hearing in front of Superior Court Judge Alison Burleson. A jury convicted him Feb. 1 for failure to yield right of way, driving under the influence alcohol less safe, four counts of serious injury by vehicle, reckless driving, hit and run, and failure to report an accident.

A portion of the sentencing hearing was a discussion of points of law between the judge, defense attorney Keith Fitzgerald and Assistant District Attorney Ashley Herndon to determine which counts would merge for the sentencing.
