Holland named 2016-17 Teacher of the Year

The Jones County School System announced its 2016-17 Teacher of the Year at an event to honor all teachers.

School Superintendent Chuck Gibson announced that Jennifer Holland, a third-grade teacher at Dames Ferry Elementary, was this year’s Teacher of the Year at the Oct. 25 ceremony at Dames Ferry Elementary School.

Gibson was the master of ceremonies for the event, and the first greeting was given by Board of Education member Dr. Nancy Nash. After welcoming the audience, the speaker referenced Gibson’s ‘One Team, One Heartbeat’ campaign.

“Mr. Gibson brings a passion to our school system, and I want to tell all our teachers that you are the ‘me’ in our team. We appreciate you, and we are blessed to have you,” she said.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Turner Woods Elementary students Hadley Dyer and Ella Purser, the national anthem was performed by Clifton Ridge Middle School’s eighth grade band. Music was presented by Dames Ferry Elementary’s chorus.

Gibson said he enjoyed having students participate in the program.

“That shows us good things are happening,” he said.
