Hounds fall to Statesboro in first round of state
The Greyhounds battled back from a horrible start to make it a game, but Statesboro proved too strong in the end to take a 63-50 victory Saturday in the opening round of the state basketball playoffs.
Jones County finishes the season with a 14-15 record. Statesboro advances to the second round with a 19-9 record.
The Blue Devils jumped out to a 19-point lead in the first quarter, but the Greyhounds turned up the pressure on defense in the second quarter to charge back into contention.
Jones County outscored Statesboro 20-6 in the second quarter, finishing with a 15-0 run to trail by only five points at halftime.
But the Blue Devils got going again in the second half and used their size advantage to gradually pull back ahead.
Seniors Dennis Woolfolk Jr., with 20 points, and Darius Taylor, with 12, led the Greyhounds in their final game.
Cameron Harvey led Statesboro with 26.
