Hounds second after sweeping Hampton

The Greyhounds added two more region victories last week, sweeping Hampton 11-1 and 3-0 to clinch a berth in the state playoffs and keep in the running to host a best-of-three series in the opening round.

Jones County is now 15-6 overall and 10-2 in Region 4-5A, tied for second with Locust Grove (15-7/10-2). But the Greyhounds swept Locust Grove earlier this season to hold the tiebreaker over the Wildcats.

Ola (19-4/13-1) is in first place, and Union Grove (14-6/8-4) is in fourth.

The top four teams in each region advance to state, with the top two hosting in the first round.

The Greyhounds have four region games remaining, two next week against Dutchtown (9-8/3-8), and two the following week against Union Grove.

The state playoffs open April 26.
