Hounds sweep the week

Jones County coach Dennis Woolfolk has hoped his young team would build momentum as the season progressed and be poised to play its best basketball when the playoffs arrived.

It appeared the Greyhounds were following that prescription last week, winning all three games, including a 55-53 victory at No. 10 Eagle’s Landing on Tuesday.

It wasn’t enough to move them into the top half of the Region 4-5A standings, but it keeps them out of the bottom three entering the final week of the regular season.

Jones County, now 11-12 overall and 8-7 in the region, was to host Northeast-Macon in a non-region game on Tuesday, then finish with a home region game against Hampton on Friday night.

The region tournament will be next week. The first round games will be at Locust Grove – the boys on Monday and girls on Tuesday. The semifinals and finals will be Thursday and Friday at Eagle’s Landing.
