Hounds win 3, including wild 18-17 game
Jones County improved to 4-2 with three home victories last week, but it took a wild finish in the final game to complete the sweep.
The Greyhounds downed West Laurens 6-0 on Tuesday, then swept a doubleheader against Adairsville on Saturday, winning 7-2 and 18-17 in a pair of games as night-and-day different as their scores.
The Greyhounds play at Ola today in their first region game, then host Ola at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
Saturday’s opener was fairly standard as baseball games go.
Jones County starter Bradley Hunnicutt, battling a little bit of a sore arm, gave up two runs on four singles in the first inning, then survived a leadoff double in the second when shortstop Brooks Veal and second baseman Jackson Mix turned a nice double play.
Thomas Vickers came on then and held the Tigers to two hits through three scoreless innings to get the win, and Tripp Powell finished up on the mound, allowing only one hit and striking out three in two innings.
