Lady Hounds falter but still have shot at state playoffs

The Lady Hounds’ dreams of hosting in the first round of the state playoffs ended with a 3-2 loss at Locust Grove last Tuesday, but they still have a chance to make it to state for the first time.

After a 6-0 start, the Jones County girls lost their last two Region 4-5A games to end their hopes of a region title. They have no more region games, so they were waiting on the results of some other games this week to know their fate for sure, but they will likely be a No. 4 seed in the state playoffs and have to open at the top team from Region 3-5A.

“Losing those last two in region really hurt, especially the one to Locust Grove,” coach Jessica Sowell said. “We played a pretty good game but came up just short. It was a punch in the stomach but we have to bounce back and try to make the best of it.”

The Lady Hounds got goals from Maggie Glover and Elizabeth Golden in the loss.
