Leonard, Monds, Bonner win in region track meet for JCHS

The Greyhounds will be sending seven athletes and the Lady Hounds two to the state sectional track meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Eagle’s Landing High School in McDonough.

JCHS junior Trey Bonner in the discus and senior Kain Monds in the shot put won Region 4-5A titles for the Jones County boys last week, also at Eagle’s Landing, and junior Erin Leonard won in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races for the girls.

The Greyhounds placed fourth in the team standings and the Lady Hounds were seventh.

Bonner broke the school record in the discus with his winning throw of 138 feet, 1 inch. Monds won the shot put with a toss of 47 feet, 7 inches.

Leonard ran a time of 5:25.84 in the 1,600 and 11:49.9 in the 3,200. Freshman Laney Doster was third in the 1,600 at 5:30.96 and second in the 3,200 at 12:06.4 to also qualify for the sectional.

The top four in each event at the region meet qualified for the sectional.
