Local veterans interviewed

Three Jones County veterans got together to record interviews at First Baptist Church, which will be the highlight of Veterans Appreciation Day in November.

Retired Col. Richard Combs, who is chairman of the Jones County Veterans Committee, conducted the interviews Aug. 25, which started with a veteran who served two tours in Afghanistan while he was enlisted in the U.S. Army. Trent Chase Mosely said he joined the Army in 2010 because it had always been his dream to follow in the footsteps of his grandpa, who was a huge part of his life.

He took basic training at Fort Benning and then attended jump school. The veteran said he was first sent to Italy and then was deployed to Afghanistan for nine months to safeguard the country’s main highway.

From Fort Bragg, North Carolina, he was deployed to Afghanistan again to protect the air base. Mosely said he made many friends while in the military with whom he knows he will never lose contact.
